About the Photographer
I grew up in the Midwest dreaming of places I could only see on TV, in encyclopedias, and National Geographic magazines. By looking at these pictures of near and far away places and studying them, I knew one day I was going to be a landscape photographer and photograph some of the places that had been seared into my mind and everything in between. In 2012, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art Photography in pursuit of fine sharpening my landscape photography skills and making landscape photography more than a hobby and a dream but a reality.
I know today I was born to be a landscape photographer. I long to get out and experience nature and photograph it, render this array of landscapes into pictures and share with you online, a gallery, an art festival, or in your home, when you purchase your own piece. This is truly a humbling journey. By pursuing photography, I believe I am fulfilling the gift and hunger God has placed in my heart to showcase His creation. Today, living in New Mexico with my wife, son, daughter, and dog but no white picket fence, I intentionally choose to search the quiet beauty and dramatic forces within the natural and unnatural landscape.
Artist Statement
As a photographer based in the Southwestern United States, my work mostly showcases Southwestern scenes. I have lived in New Mexico for over 15 years which has afforded me a front row seat to some of the world’s greatest sunlight and to so many southwestern destinations that I only dreamed of going to before I moved to New Mexico. Growing up in the Midwest but having had the opportunity to travel through the Southwest many times, I knew when I first saw the grand expanses of the southwestern landscapes and skies, I would eventually make the Southwest my home. I have gained a great deal understanding and appreciation for the Southwest region of the United States and the many vibrant cultures past and present it keeps alive.
My main goal is to intentionally share the beauty of the world where each click of the shutter is different and entirely unique from the last. A moment forever recorded to never be repeated or captured again. It is the extreme isolation and the vivid light that attracts me to photograph the lonely high deserts of the Southwest. Moreover, I am always in search of that distinct tree, rock structure, or road within the broad expanse to portray the extreme solitude and find the purposeful beauty within it. It is my greatest honor to share these experiences with you on social media, a gallery, an art festival, or in your home, when you purchase your own piece.
It is through this constant search in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday grind, I am overcome by the mighty presence of God. It is a powerful experience. It is my hope that you could perhaps experience something similar within the isolation and beauty depicted in my work even if it is just for a matter of a mere moment.
